openBVE Homepage
Welcome on this page. This is the home of the currently developed openBVE, an open source, free of charge train driving simulator that is intended to be compatible with an already existing and outstanding simulator called BVE, or formerly Boso View Express. The original game can be accessed here via the site of its original author, usually known as Mr. Mackoy. However, openBVE will feature unique extensions and will be expanded at the wish of the community beyond mere compatibility. This project is still in development. With the current version, you should be able to ride many of the existing BVE routes without major problems. Trains developed for BVE 2 should generally work now, including full support for the panel (except ATC indications), and the train controls, including acceleration curves, brake systems etc. Train physics, including tilting in curves, rolling down a hill etc., is also included. Security systems like ATS or ATC, as well as audio, is currently not available. However, you can access an exterior view and enjoy your routes from a new perspective until the game will be feature-complete. You can download the current version from the Downloads section. For any problems you might encounter, for any wish or suggestion you have, please read and post on the forum and make valueable contributions that can form the project as it evolves. There is a lot of work ahead in order to achieve compatiblity with the existing BVE, but even now, new features are considered, prepared and have even already been implemented. It is important to know which directions to take now, and the more people will participate, the more people could be satisfied with the result afterward.
The next major release, version 0.4, will include initial support for audio, plus the 'previous train', which will affect the signalling and will be able to be shown as a 3D object in the game. Please see the Roadmap for more information. |
