openBVE Homepage

ATTENTION: This program is still in development and should currently only be used by people familiar with BVE. If you don't know BVE or do not understand what a development release is, please come back in a few months for the final official release. Otherwise, it is implied that you fully know about the current state of development and the restrictions applying by having read the roadmap, the developer log and the relevant threads in the forum.

Current version: 0.6.0.1, dated 2008-07-04 (Fr)

Welcome on this page. This is the home of the currently developed openBVE, an open source, free of charge train driving simulator which is intended to be compatible with routes and trains developed for an existing simulator called BVE, or formerly Boso View Express. However, openBVE will feature unique extensions and will be expanded at the wish of the community beyond mere compatibility.

This project is still in development. With the current version, you should be able to ride many of the existing BVE routes without major problems. Routes and trains developed for BVE 2 should generally work now, including full support for the panel, the train controls and the safety systems (ATS-SN, ATS-P and ATC). Train physics, including tilting in curves, rolling on inclines etc., is also included. As for the sound, openBVE uses a 3D positional audio system which is enjoyed best with a surround speaker system. Furthermore, you can access an exterior view and take a look at your routes from a new perspective until the program is feature-complete. You can download the current version from the Downloads section.

For any problems you might encounter, for any request or suggestion you have, please read and post on the forum and make valueable contributions that can form the project as it evolves. There is a lot of work ahead in order to achieve compatiblity with the existing BVE, but even now, new features are considered, prepared and have even already been implemented. It is important to know which directions to take now, and the more people will participate, the more people could be satisfied with the result afterward.

The next major release, version 0.7, will feature support for BVE 4 ATS DLL plugins, and thus full support for all BVE 2 and BVE 4 trains. Version 0.7 is roughly scheduled to be released on 2008-07-17. Please see the Roadmap for more information.
